Here is a summary with spoilers of Bewitched by Laura Thalassa
In a prologue, Memnon is trapped in never-ending darkness, left with nothing but time to think of his beloved wife, Roxilana. Desperation claws at him as he longs for her to come and save him.
At twenty years old, Selene Bowers dreams of being accepted into Henbane Coven, an academy for young witches. She arrives for her interview, hopeful, but things take a turn when the witches bring up her medical condition. Magic comes at a cost, and for Selene, that cost is her memories. Every spell she casts erases fragments of her past. The council ultimately denies her application, but one of the witches, Constance, offers her an alternative—if she embarks on a magical quest and gains a familiar, she will earn her place in the coven.
Selene shares the news with her best friend, Sybil, revealing the carefully organized life she leads due to her memory loss, leaving notes for herself to function. That night, in a drunken haze, she impulsively books a ticket to the Galápagos Islands, convinced that such a journey will provide the magical experience she needs.
On her way to South America, her flight is disrupted by a strange haze of blue magic and a deep, male voice that only she can hear. The voice calls her "my queen" and "empress," urging her to come to him. The plane begins to malfunction, as if being pulled from the sky, forcing Selene to use her magic to ensure a safe crash landing. When she regains her senses, she realizes her magic saved everyone, and they have landed in the Amazon Rainforest. The voice persists, leading her deeper into the jungle. Along the way, she encounters a panther, and after a brief yet powerful magical connection, she realizes the creature is her familiar. She names him Nero. Thinking the voice belonged to Nero, she prepares to move on, but the voice returns, guiding her to an underground entrance with strange yet readable inscriptions.
Inside, she discovers a coffin marked "Memnon the Cursed." The voice urges her to release him, and despite her unease, she speaks the ancient words, which she did not know she knew. Memnon awakens, overjoyed to see Selene, whom he mistakes for his wife, Roxi. He kisses her, believing she has returned for him, but Selene insists she is not Roxi. As his memories flood back, he recalls that Roxi may have been the one who cursed him. His love turns to fury, and in his rage, he curses Selene, vowing she will suffer for eternity. She blacks out.
When Selene wakes, she is alone. Memnon has sealed her inside the tomb. Using her magic, she escapes and begins her journey back to the crash site, deeply unsettled by what she has unleashed upon the world. Eventually, she returns home and documents everything before she forgets. She reapplies to Henbane Coven and awaits their response. In the meantime, Sybil invites her to a party. As Selene enjoys the night with Nero at her side, Memnon's voice resurfaces. She confesses everything to Sybil.
Selene receives official acceptance into the coven and moves onto campus with Nero. While exploring the library, she meets a witch named Kasey, who warns her about fire magic. Selene then realizes she had unknowingly used dark magic to light a lantern—and Kasey noticed. Soon after, Memnon appears on campus. He confronts Selene, still calling her Roxi, accusing her of destroying his army, breaking their kingdom, and cursing him without granting him the funeral rites needed to pass on. Now, he is awake in a world he does not recognize. Though Selene insists she is not Roxi, Memnon does not believe her and vows to tear the world apart until only the two of them remain. It is then that Selene realizes—he is a sorcerer.
As Selene begins her classes, a dead witch is discovered on campus. Alarmed, she tells Sybil she suspects Memnon. Later, in a lesson about protective amulets, a teacher cryptically advises Selene that she must remember, even if she has forgotten, and that she should make an amulet because "the villains are coming for her." When Selene attempts to craft the amulet, Memnon arrives, furious and demanding answers. Nero, unhelpfully, seems to like him. Memnon chokes her in his rage, but Selene casts a spell to banish him. The next morning, another witch is found dead.
Desperate for money to support herself and Nero, Selene takes a shady job from Kasey. Meanwhile, Memnon continues his confrontations, asserting that he knows things about Selene’s body only a lover would. To prove her identity, Selene shares childhood scrapbooks, yet Memnon remains convinced she is lying. They make a magical truce—he must answer one question truthfully before he can search her memories. She asks if he is killing the witches, and he says no. After looking into her past, he finally calls her Selene, appearing saddened, as if beginning to accept they might not be the same person.
One night, Nero wakes Selene, covered in blood, leading her to another brutal murder scene. She spends the day being questioned by authorities. Later, needing money, she agrees to join Kasey's summoning circle. At a neighboring wolf pack’s party, Selene reconnects with her high school crush, Kane, but Memnon interrupts, throwing Kane out a window and claiming Selene as his mate. He reveals their past, but Selene refuses to believe him.
The summoning circle proves dangerous when they attempt to bind a terrified shifter to a priestess using dark magic. Selene rescues the girl, igniting a violent confrontation. Exhausted and injured, she accepts Memnon’s magic to survive. When he finds her later, she is in bad shape, and he heals her. The next morning, her memory is worse than ever—she has forgotten key events, including the murders she reported to the officers.
Determined to recover answers, Memnon helps Selene retrace her steps. They realize the golden rule of magic: what is cast returns threefold. The curse Roxi placed on Memnon is now Selene’s burden. With this revelation, the two share an intimate moment. The next day, Selene receives records confirming she is both a witch and a soulmate—Memnon’s soulmate. The realization terrifies her.
Summoned by the high priestesses, Selene is warned that she is now a person of interest in the murders. Meanwhile, Memnon discovers her journals and offers to restore her lost memories. She refuses, fearing the truth behind her actions. Enraged, he burns her journals, and mentions he has been erasing her recent memories and destroying any evidence she had for the authorities. He gives her two weeks to return to him, or he will enact his next plan. Furious, Selene devises revenge—she will sever their bond. But before she can complete the ritual, Memnon stops her, declaring his love but warning she has only three days left.
At the grand ball, Selene is ready to provoke him, but before she can act, Kane calls—officers are coming to arrest her. Meanwhile, Memnon reveals to the entire ballroom that he framed Selene for the murders. Chaos erupts. As their magic clashes, Memnon gains the upper hand, strangling people with his power, forcing Selene to make a choice. He demands she restore her memories and marry him. She agrees. He takes her away, completing a blood pact that seals their fate.
As the sirens of the authorities close in, Memnon and Selene break the curse, and her memories flood back. She is Roxi. Just as she turns to confirm this to Memnon, the officers storm in and arrest her. She looks at him, realization dawning in horror. "What have I done?"
